The Arminian

This is Part 2 of my discussion on Calvinism. To start at the beginning, please search for the post entitled ‘Our DNA’ or go to the category entitled ‘Calvinism’ and find the beginning.

What do I mean by “The Arminian”?? I know some people are going to be offended because I don’t always use the term correctly. An Arminian is a follower of the teachings of Jacobus Arminius - a former student of Theodore Beza, who succeeded John Calvin. Now you’re scratching your head. If Arminius studied under Calvin’s successor, why the controversy today? Arminius didn’t like the teachings of Calvinism. He left Geneva and began preaching against Calvin’s followers. (more…)

Our DNA

God has for each of you a DNA - not just a physical DNA but also a spiritual DNA

This quote is from the commencement address at ICS Uijongbu, delivered by Dr. Josephine Kim of Harvard University - a former ICS graduate - on Saturday May 26, 2007 and it blew out the left side of my head! I almost couldn’t contain the outburst that welled up inside me at hearing her say this, and for the whole rest of her speech, I don’t think I hear anything she said because I couldn’t stop mulling over this quote and plumbing the depths of its implications. My Latest BFO

For those of you who don’t know, BFO stands for Blinding Flash of the Obvious - a little something I stole from Matt Pierson at Scioto Hills. You could call it an epiphany, but I like BFO b/c most of the time it’s something I already knew or was right in front of my face that I suddenly see again or in a new light or in a new way that makes me stand back and go “WHOAH!!!!!!!!!!” (and usually ‘holy crap’ and shake my head a few times. My wife can testify to this. I love BFO’s!!!) (more…)

Answers in Genesis Creation Museum

On memorial day, Answers in Genesis is opening its museum in Kentucky (sweet!) and the subject of Mike McConnell’s radio show has been about the fact that there’s a lot of evolutionists protesting the opening of this museum, for reasons you can guess, and McConnell has been coming down on the side of the museum saying that no matter what it’s their constitutional right to have it, no matter what.

So I wrote the following e-mail to McConnell to rebut his callers: (more…)
