Doctrine
This is going to be a really really long document that will take a very long time for me to complete, so please bear with me. I will be updating it as I go. You can see what I’ve done so far by looking below:
Truths I Will Die For
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
the Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord:
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.1
The third day He arose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty,
whence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic 2 church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Salvation is:
Sola Gracia - By Grace Alone
Sola Fide - Through Faith Alone
Solus Christus - In Christ Alone - apart from works
Sola Scriptura - As revealed in the Scriptures. The Bible and the Incarnation (as recounted in the Bible) are the sole sources of special revelation available to us today.
Soli Deo Gloria - All for the Glory of God!
- Did Jesus literally descend into Hell? Good question. Lake of Fire? No - that hasn’t been occupied yet. However, Hell? Let’s define Hell for a second. Hell is the punishment for human sin. Hell is the adverse experience of God’s presence. Did Christ experience these? He paid for human sin. He experienced God’s presence adversely when God turned His back on Him. I say it this way: ‘Jesus went to Hell forever in three hours for everyone He atoned’. As far as literally going to the place where humans who die without Christ go? I can’t say for sure on that one, but I simply ask this: ‘Where was He those three days?’ That’s an argument from silence, but it’s the best one we have. The point of this line of the creed is that Christ has fully paid the required penalty for sin, a point which no evangelical or reformed theologian will dispute.
- The word “catholic†refers not to the Roman Catholic Church, but to the universal church of the Lord Jesus Christ. - hence the lowercase ‘c’
